Pacific Crest Trail Diary 17: Day 116 (Stevens Pass, WA)

Updated: Sep 21, 2018

I don't have a lot of time to write or access to a keyboard, so I'll write this on my phone.

I will not be able to complete my hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. That, I think, is all that matters at this point. It hurts me so much that I cannot even explain my pain. I have never worked so hard for something that I will not be able to complete. I am literally less than 200 miles from Canada via the trail, but the trail is closed. There are extremely severe fires all through Washington north of my current location so the trail has been closed.

I have a lot that I want to say about this, but I don't have keyboard access, energy, or time. So for now I'll leave with this realization that I've been sitting with since arriving here this afternoon: I have failed to complete my hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. I will not be able to make it to the trail's end. It is out of my control, but it is what it is.

I feel that I have failed. I've come a long ways to come so close. But ultimately I have failed.

I intend to deactivate my account in the coming days, but want to give people time to read this post so that you know what happened.

I'm sorry to leave it at this. If anything changes I'll let you know.
